BCCI Warns IPL Teams Over Honey-Trap Threats

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has reportedly issued a strong advisory to all IPL franchises, cautioning them against potential honey-trap risks and unauthorized access involving players and support staff during the ongoing tournament.

According to reports, the board circulated a detailed set of guidelines highlighting concerns over security breaches, suspicious interactions, and the increasing presence of unauthorized individuals around team environments.

The advisory stresses that high-profile sporting events like the Indian Premier League can become vulnerable to targeted compromise attempts, including situations that may lead to legal or reputational issues for players and franchises.

As part of the stricter measures, franchises have reportedly been instructed to tighten hotel room access protocols, restrict unauthorized visitors, and closely monitor movement in team hotels, buses, dressing rooms, and dugout areas. Written approval from team managers is said to be mandatory for guest access to player areas.

The move comes after anti-corruption and security units flagged several irregularities during the season, including the presence of unknown individuals in restricted zones. Reports also suggest that the board is concerned about activities that could expose players to blackmail, misconduct allegations, or spot-fixing risks.

Apart from security concerns, the new advisory reportedly includes behavioral guidelines aimed at maintaining professionalism and discipline throughout the tournament. Franchise managements have been asked to remain proactive and ensure complete compliance with operational protocols.

The latest development underlines the board’s intent to protect the integrity of the IPL and avoid controversies that could damage the reputation of the league and its stakeholders.
