Vishwak Sen’s Laila Faces Brutal Rejection on OTT After Theatrical Disaster

Vishwak Sen’s Laila remains out of favor, despite its OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. The Valentine’s Day release flopped at the box office, and its digital release is not doing any better. Viewers did not want to see it in the cinemas, and now they are not interested in watching it on streaming sites. This has kept the film off the trends on Prime Video, which is not typical for a new release.

Laila’s failure has stunned everybody because even moderately performing films at the box office tend to find a second wind on OTT. But Laila hasn’t been able to pick up, indicating that the film has been thoroughly rejected on all platforms.

Laila’s Theatrical Failure Was Inevitable

The movie hit the screens with bad reviews, and the audience immediately rejected it. Most people found the movie dull, outdated, and difficult to watch. Word of mouth was quick, and within the first few days, theater occupancy plummeted. Even Vishwak Sen’s hardcore fans didn’t come to the film’s defense.

There were a few reasons why Laila flopped at the box office:

  • Lack of good promotional content did not build anticipation.
  • The trailer and songs of the movie did not build buzz.
  • Pre-release controversies did not work to attract viewers.
  • The narrative was shallow and lacked emotional involvement.

Notwithstanding these issues, there were some professionals in the industry who thought that the film could get back on OTT. Most films which flopped in theatres have done well on OTTs because they have a broader viewership. But Laila also demonstrated that poor content cannot be successful anywhere.

Laila Totally Fails on OTT

The movie landed on Amazon Prime Video, but there was no interest from viewers. Any new release would normally trend on Prime Video as people look it up, but Laila never reached the trending page.

Most who tried to watch the movie were unable to finish it. There are various reports that indicate that audiences found the movie boring and intolerable even on OTT. As the movie was already labeled as a disaster, the majority of people decided to ignore it completely.

The difference was evident when Sharwanand’s Manamey, which hit theaters nine months ago, landed on Prime Video and went straight to the top of the trending list. This contrast is indicative of how viewers chose an older movie over Laila, indicating its total rejection.

Why Did Laila Fail So Miserably?

Laila’s failure did not occur overnight. Several reasons led to its failure in theaters and on OTT:

1. Weak Story and Execution
The audiences seek interesting content, and Laila lacked that. The script was not deep, emotional, or entertaining, and it was painful to watch.

2. Lack of Effective Promotions
The promotion campaign of the film did not generate hype. The trailer and the songs failed to inspire a response, and audience interest declined even prior to the release.

3. Negative Word-of-Mouth
Reviews were the decisive factor in a film’s performance. As soon as negative reviews began circulating, the film had any last chance of box office success. The same trend followed on OTT, where no one even cared to give it a second try.

4. Competitively Tougher Contenders
Better OTT releases did much better, giving Laila zero space to get some momentum. Viewers preferred good movies to spending their time on Laila.

Laila’s Failure: A Warning for Filmmakers

Laila’s failure is symptomatic of an emerging trend in the business—people expect good content these days. Previously, movies used to get away on star value, but now even top stars can’t rescue poorly produced films. Vishwak Sen has previously produced hit movies, but this venture utterly flopped.

To bounce back from this failure, he needs to reevaluate his script choices and pick quality projects. The business no longer condones poor storytelling, and filmmakers need to give priority to quality over hype.

Final Verdict: A Movie Nobody Wants to See

Laila’s failure on theatres and OTT demonstrates that audiences will not accept poor content. The movie has failed on all mediums and is one of the biggest flops of the year. Unlike other flops that occasionally recover on digital mediums, Laila has been totally shunned everywhere.

Vishwak Sen is now challenged with restoring his image with a powerful comeback. He needs to select his next projects very carefully, making sure they provide quality entertainment and storytelling.

Laila, on the other hand, will be remembered as a movie that people wished they could forget.
