Veera Dheera Sooran, featuring Chiyaan Vikram, was much awaited prior to its release. The movie, directed by a new and promising director, created buzz among the audience. But it encountered unforeseen financial issues, and morning and matinee shows were canceled on the day of its release, March 27.
The movie eventually released with evening shows alone, which resulted in a major blow to its opening day collections. This aside, Veera Dheera Sooran had unanimous positive reviews, with the audience and critics appreciating its good content, performances, and action scenes. This critical success, however, did not find its way to big box office figures.
Box Office Collections – A Slow Start
Tamil Nadu Performance
Day 1 saw Veera Dheera Sooran raise ₹2.5 crores, which was a relatively small opening when compared to the other films of Vikram. Day 2 collections were better, at ₹4 crores, and on Day 3, preliminary indications point towards the ₹6-7 crores range.
So far, the film’s Tamil Nadu total after three days is around ₹13 crores. To put things into perspective, Vikram’s last release, Thangalaan, opened with ₹13 crores gross in Tamil Nadu on Day 1 itself. Veera Dheera Sooran has taken three days to reach that number, highlighting its slow start.
Telugu Version – A Complete Washout
Though Tamil Nadu performance is disappointing, the Telugu version has fared even poorer. The movie has been a flop in Telugu states, and it has not picked up among people. This lack of interest has considerably impacted its overall collections.
Adding to the woes, the movie also has problems with its non-theatrical rights, which are yet to be sold or finalized. Without closing OTT and satellite deals, the financial burden on the theatrical operation has mounted further.
Can Veera Dheera Sooran Bounce Back? Holiday Push May Help
For Veera Dheera Sooran to even survive, it needs to show big figures in the coming two days.
Sunday and Ramzan Holiday Push
The next Sunday and Ramzan holiday give the film a much-needed chance to gain momentum. If the audience comes out in big numbers on these two days, the film may experience a huge jump in collections.
Word-of-Mouth is Important
As the film has got good reviews, word-of-mouth publicity can be an important factor. If positive word of mouth spreads, it may prompt more people to see the film.
Break-even Appears Unlikely – A ₹100 Crore Mark Remains Far Off
For the movie to be termed a satisfactory success, it needs to garner more than ₹100 crores globally. With its present lackluster performance, though, this mark appears to be even more unlikely to be reached.
Here’s why:
✔ Dull beginning – Even with good material, the movie is failing to draw in big crowds.
✔ Limited appeal in Telugu states – The poor response from Telugu viewers has impacted overall collections.
✔ No major non-theatrical deals closed – The digital and satellite rights of the film are still pending.
✔ Competition at the box office – Other releases such as MAD Square and L2: Empuraan are doing better.
For Veera Dheera Sooran to make a change, it has to make an enormous leap in collections during the holiday season. Otherwise, it will be yet another box office failure even as it is a well-crafted film.

Final Verdict – A Race Against Time
Veera Dheera Sooran boasts all the ingredients of a hit commercial film, such as a good story, thrilling action scenes, and a commanding performance by Vikram. But its lackluster release plan and financial challenges have led to disappointing box office returns.
With the Sunday and Ramzan holidays looming, the movie has one final chance to make a dent. If it doesn’t take advantage of this, it may not be able to survive in cinemas after the first week.
