Thangalaan Surpasses Expectations in North India Despite Limited Release

Despite having a restricted release, director Pa Ranjith’s most recent historical drama, Thangalaan, has exceeded trade predictions in North India, with its Hindi translation garnering surprising traction.

Despite a limited release, director Pa Ranjith’s most recent period drama, Thangalaan, has outperformed trade expectations in North India, especially with its Hindi version. The film has shown strong signs of developing into a commercial success in the region.

With Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role, the Hindi version opened on 300–400 screens. Despite having a more modest release than larger Tamil blockbusters, the movie managed to leave a lasting impression on the audience, especially considering the film’s lower budget compared to other Tamil films that were also released in Hindi.

“Thangalaan had a limited release, but in terms of screen count, it’s actually catching up,” said moviegoer Akshay Rathi. It is becoming stronger and stronger. More individuals will rapidly get interested in it as word gets out.”

In addition to its content, Chiyaan Vikram’s efforts to promote the movie throughout North India set Thangalaan apart from previous Tamil releases. Vikram dedicated time and energy to the project before the Hindi version was released, and it was a wise decision.

“The one thing that makes every movie work is the narrative and storytelling. When you accomplish that, it’s only a matter of time until you make your way to a wider audience,” Akshay remarked, considering the movie’s increasing popularity in the Hindi market.

Although the film has struggled to secure multiplex screens due to a pre-release streaming contract, hope remains that more shows will be scheduled to meet the growing interest in Thangalaan as demand increases.

National cinema chains require all new Hindi films, including dubbed versions, to be removed from streaming services for at least eight weeks.

Films that don’t follow this guideline frequently have trouble finding a showing in the big multiplexes of North India.

Despite this obstacle, the makers have already proclaimed Thangalaan a commercial triumph, with over Rs 100 crore being made worldwide just from its Telugu and Tamil versions alone.
