The highly anticipated film Kanguva, starring Suriya, will no longer release on October 10 as initially planned. After Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan was also scheduled for release on the same day, Suriya decided to change the release date. Suriya decided from releasing his movie right away in order to show respect for the legendary Actor Rajinikanth.
Suriya gave an explanation of his choice at the Meiyazhagan audio release event on Saturday night, highlighting Rajinikanth’s towering presence in Tamil film. “Rajini Sir’s Vettaiyan will be released on October 10. My senior is Rajini sir. He began his acting career the year I was born, and for the past fifty years, he has been the face of Tamil cinema. And only his film should, in my opinion, be released on that date. This is how we show Superstar our respect.”
Suriya expressed confidence in Kanguva’s ability to improve Tamil cinema’s popularity around worldwide. “This film took over 2.5 years to complete and over 1,000 individuals worked on it to create something unique in Tamil cinema. And I have no doubts at all that the effort put into creating this movie won’t be in waste. I believe you will give the love and respect this film deserves,” he said.
Initially, Kanguva was set to be the first movie to announce its October 10 release date. However, when Lyca Productions chose the same date for Vettaiyan, the industry faced a challenge. The competition between these two big films concerned exhibitors and distributors, as it could negatively impact their business.

Suriya’s decision to postpone Kanguva considers the bigger picture and demonstrates his grasp of market dynamics.
Since Kanguva is the most expensive film of Suriya’s career, avoiding direct competition with a Rajinikanth movie could significantly enhance its box office performance. Suriya believes that when the movie eventually releases, it will receive the appreciation it deserves. “Kanguva is like a baby, and its birthday is the day it is released. I hope you’ll join me in making that day a celebration,” Suriya said.
The producers are yet to announce the new release date for Kanguva.
