Salman Khan’s highly awaited action thriller Sikandar, helmed by A.R. Murugadoss, has not met expectations at the box office. Although it was released on an Eid weekend, a time normally most convenient for a Salman Khan movie, the film went on to open with a quite disappointing ₹25 crore net collection on the very first day.
Typically, Salman Khan’s Eid releases get a huge boost because of the festival season, but this time Sikandar did not get the holiday boom that was anticipated. Despite having a Sunday release and the Eid holiday benefit, the numbers for the film did not happen as expected. The opening day two estimates are for a collection of approximately ₹27 crore net, or less than a 10% growth—a dismal and disappointing trend for a film that was set to rule the box office.
Eid Fails to Bring Cheer for Sikandar’s Collections
Historically, Eid has been a fortunate time for Salman Khan’s movies, with earlier blockbusters such as Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan, and Tiger Zinda Hai breaking box office records. Sikandar has not been able to do the same.
Trade pundits had believed the film to bank on festival madness, posting at least 30–40% growth on Eid day collections. But this minute rise in collections on day two has shaken confidence big time over its ultimate box office chance. The failure to post any decent holiday uptick indicates the movie is losing connect with spectators in spite of the stardom of Salman Khan and its festive release.
Will Festivities Post Eid Assist?
There remains some hope that the movie may have some improvement on Tuesday since celebrations after Eid frequently spill over into the next day, permitting high footfalls for cinemas. Even so, following the current pattern, it doesn’t seem very probable that Sikandar will hold well after the first days.
The true test of the movie arrives on Wednesday when working days will become routine, and collections may fall to the single digits. If it drops so low, the film will face it really tough to notch a decent lifetime figure at the box office.
A Herculean Task to Cross ₹150 Crore Mark
Up until now, the movie has gathered around ₹52 crore in two days. Without an Eid lift, experts estimate that achieving ₹150 crore during its lifetime run will be a difficult task.
For a Salman Khan starrer, these numbers are far from encouraging. While the film may still perform decently over the next few days, the momentum required to reach the ₹150 crore milestone seems difficult unless there is a significant turnaround in audience reception.
Possible Reasons Behind Sikandar’s Underperformance
Several factors may have contributed to the film’s lackluster start:
- Mixed Word-of-Mouth: Initial reviews and public reaction appear to be half-hearted. Contrary to other Salman Khan movies that enjoyed mass following, Sikandar hasn’t created the same buzz.
- Tough Competition: The movie is competing against continuous releases and other regional blockbusters, which could have split the audience’s attention.
- Content Over Star Power: With shifting audience tastes, star power is insufficient to ensure the success of a movie anymore. Content-based movies are doing better, and Sikandar could have fallen short with the audience.
- High Expectations and Comparisons: With Salman Khan’s previous track record of success, expectations were inordinately high. Any less than a bumper opening is seen as a failure.

What Lies Ahead for Sikandar?
The next few days will decide the fate of Sikandar. If the movie fails to indicate a good hold during weekdays, it might get over sooner than anticipated. A sharp dip after the holiday season would confirm that the viewers are not interested in the material.
For the time being, the underwhelming opening of the film is a concern for trade analysts, and it is yet to be seen if Sikandar is able to gain traction or prove to be another Eid release that falls short of expectations.
