Rajinikanth Struggles with Lyca Productions: Will He Compensate Once Again?

Superstar Rajinikanth has indeed been with Lyca Productions, and though for long, it was never smooth sailing. From what started with the big-ticket 2.0, under which vast sums of money had been invested, the film did little to justify the spend, turning out to be a loss venture for Lyca.

A Trail of Failures

After 2.0, Rajinikanth once again joined Lyca Productions with Darbar, which also did not fare well at the box office and is adding further woes to this production house. Earlier this year, Rajinikanth has also appeared in a cameo in Lal Salaam, an otherwise insignificant film produced by Lyca Productions. Again, this one also did not fare well at the box office, which again would be a disappointment for Lyca Productions, the back-to-back ones.

The Vettaiyan Gamble

Lyca Productions was hoping to reap some fortune with Vettaiyan after losing on its earlier ventures. The film, which was initially budgeted as a mid-range production, incurred the expenses with star cast Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, and Fahadh Faasil. Still, the pre-release business of the film was quite promising, mainly due to the phenomenal success of his previous outing, Jailer.

Yet the massive collection of ₹200 crores+ worldwide could not bring Vettaiyan up to the optimistic hopes that it would rake in enough to address the losses suffered by previous ventures. While the film did alright for itself, it did not really amass enough for it to re-establish any hope for Lyca.

Will Rajinikanth Make Amends Once Again?

As of now, it is reported that Lyca Productions has approached Rajinikanth with an expectation that this time around, he would accept to do one more film as a gesture to help them recover from their successive losses. Only time will tell how the superstar reacts to this offer. After all, Rajinikanth is known for taking on assignments as a form of reparation, and many are questioning if he would do so again this time to enable the production house to recover.

This is a waiting game for fans and the industry alike, to see what Rajinikanth will eventually do. Lyca and Rajini, both seem to be under an immense pressure at this point in time. Will Rajinikanth agree for one more film as compensation or will Lyca Productions look for an alternative option? Only time will tell.
