Kannada Actor Darshan Appeals for Bail Over Medical Condition in Renukaswamy Murder Case

Kannada film star Darshan Thoogdeep Srinivas had filed a fresh bail application in the Karnataka High Court, claiming that his health had reached a bad state. That Darshan, who had already spent more than 20 days behind the bars since his arrest on June 22, 2024, was arrested in connection with Renukaswamy murder case for better health. The case featured significant media attention, and the latest developments mark an important phase in the actor’s legal battle.

Medical Condition: Bail Plea

On the ground of current medical ailments, a serious spinal ailment, the bail plea of Darshan was submitted. Darshan’s lawyer and senior Advocate C.V. Nagesh, appearing for the actor, informed the court that Darshan had recently undergone some medical tests since his condition was severe. On Monday, October 21, 2024, Darshan was put through a series of strenuous medical tests. The High Court, comprising Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty, considered these health concerns and directed the state government to bring out the medical records of Darshan. The court also asked the prosecution to submit its objections to the bail plea in the next hearing.

Earlier Bail Rejection

This is not for the first time that Darshan’s bail plea has reached the court. On October 14, Sessions Court had dismissed bail applications for both Darshan and co-accused Pavitra Gowda. Darshan was arrested on June 11, 2024, and sent to judicial custody from June 22 and has been behind bars since then. The Karnataka Police had recently filed a chargesheet against the actor in the murder case. Nonetheless, co-accused Keshavamurthy was let off on bail by the High Court and that in itself raises disturbing questions about the differential outcomes meted out to persons involved in this case.

Future of the Case

Justice Vishwajith Shetty, considering the medical condition of Darshan, said, “We will call for the medical reports and post the matter for further hearing on Monday.” This is an important date as the case will be viewed in the light of the medical evidence along with the bail petition. The judgment would decide not only the future course of Darshan but also enlighten more on the general development in the Renukaswamy murder case.
