A crucial hard drive carrying important footage for the much-awaited film Kanappa has vanished under mysterious circumstances. The drive, which was dispatched by HIVE Studios in Mumbai through DTDC courier, had arrived at its destination but disappeared under very suspicious circumstances.
This strange and frightening episode has now become a full-blown investigation, complete with missing office personnel and fingers pointing in all directions.
How It All Unfolded: A Routine Delivery Gone Wrong
As per production sources, the hard drive was shipped with all necessary security measures. HIVE Studios, a leading Mumbai post-production facility, had wrapped up some of the most critical footage from Kanappa and sent it for delivery.
When Raghu, an office boy, took delivery of the drive at the production office upon arrival is not known. What followed made routine procedure turn into a crisis — Raghu delivered the drive to a woman named Charitha, who is neither officially attached to the studio nor part of the production team. Raghu and Charitha have never been heard from since then.

Search for Raghu and Charitha Gains Strength
Attempts to contact Raghu and Charitha have not worked. Both their phones are turned off, and they have not returned to work or home since the mishap. As both of them are nowhere to be found, the production house has formally lodged the case with the Hyderabad Police.

Cybersecurity experts have also sounded warning bells regarding the possible leak of confidential film information. If the drive happens to end up in the wrong hands, it might be hosted online or even sold on the black market — a filmmaker’s worst nightmare.
“Exactly why encrypted drives, safe VPN-based upload, and asset vaulting solutions are so important in this day and age of digital filmmaking,” said Sai Ramachandra, a data security expert based in Hyderabad.
Producers Plot Their Next Move In Turmoil
The production crew working on Kanappa is currently looking at measures to control the damage. Backup files are said to be in place, but they will not be comprehensive. Shooting will be delayed if the original footage cannot be recovered.
The directors are also said to be offering a reward for any information regarding the missing people or the hard drive. Many other movie studios are also taking this as a wake-up call to audit and tighten their own data protection procedures.
