This year’s biggest hit in Indian cinema, Kalki 2898 AD, marks the beginning of a vast cinematic universe inspired by the Mahabharata. The movie’s cliffhanger ending leaves viewers eagerly anticipating an epic showdown between Kamal Haasan’s Supreme Yaskin and Prabhas‘ Bhairava/Karna.

Fans will have to wait longer to see how these two strong characters fight in the futurist setting. The sequel Kalki 2, whose release is set for 2028, will go into production in January of next year, according to the producers, Vyjayanthi Movies. This schedule surpasses even the long waits for previous highly anticipated sequels like Baahubali 2 and Pushpa 2.

The story of Kalki 2898 AD revolves around God’s second appearance in a world consumed by darkness. The world’s last resources are gathered under Yaskin’s supervision in a flying dome over Kashi City, as the universe’s power has been depleted by humanity’s insatiable hunger for wealth and power. After 200 years of decaying, Yaskin is searching for a miracle serum to regenerate his body. When he finally finds a drop of it, he gains enough strength and stamina to look for more.

In “Kalki 2898 AD,” Kamal Haasan’s character appears for less than ten minutes; however, the sequel will mostly center on his relentless pursuit for power. Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone also play significant roles in the film.
