“‘I Blocked the Number’: Rashmika Mandanna Thought Her First Film Offer was a Prank Call”

On April 5, Rashmika Mandanna will turn 27. In a previous interview, the actor, who was most recently seen in the Tamil film Varisu, discussed her acting debut and how she almost decided against joining the industry since she believed the first offer she received was a joke. Rashmika remembers being given a main role after winning a beauty pageant, but she blocked the phone because she assumed it was a hoax call.

Rashmika made her acting debut in the 2016 Kannada film Kirik Party, which went on to become one of the year’s highest-grossing movies overall. She received the SIIMA Award for the role’s best debut. Rashmika debuted in two Kannada films in 2017—Anjani Putra and Chamak—and has subsequently worked on other Telugu and Tamil productions.

In an interview with Mashable India in 2022, Rashmika discussed how she nearly missed her big screen debut, saying, “For Kirik Party they needed someone young with a mature look. I received a call from the production company, but I initially mistook it for a hoax call. I then banned the number after saying, “I am not interested in any films, sir. Please keep the phone down.”
