Diwali 2025 Goes Cinematic: Suriya, Dhruv Vikram & Pradeep Ranganathan Set to Light Up Tamil Screens

As anticipation for Diwali 2025 starts mounting, the Tamil film industry is ready to set the festive season aglow with three big-ticket releases that are destined to set the box office afire. Fans of movies are already counting down as Suriya’s much-awaited Suriya 45, Dhruv Vikram’s gritty sports drama Bison, and Pradeep Ranganathan’s new-age entertainer Dude are set to clash during the Diwali holidays. With every movie providing a distinct taste of narration and stardom, this Diwali promises to be an extravaganza of light and film.

Suriya 45: A New Chapter in Versatility

Suriya, one of Tamil cinema’s most dynamic actors, returns with Suriya 45, a project that has been building massive buzz since its announcement. Directed by RJ Balaji and co-written by Rathna Kumar, this film marks another bold move in Suriya’s ever-evolving career. Known for blending humor with heart, RJ Balaji takes the director’s chair with a vision that appears both engaging and emotionally resonant.

The supporting cast includes Trisha Krishnan, who is back with Suriya after all these years, providing nostalgic value to long-time fans. With the inclusion of Yogi Babu’s signature humor and actors such as Sshivada, Indrans, and Supreeth Reddy having crucial roles, the movie is set for a mix of drama, humor, and strong performances.

Against the verdant setting of Pollachi, the visuals of the film are being woven by cinematographer G.K. Vishnu, while editor R. Kalaivanan is cutting the final tale. The music, composed by Sai Abhyankkar, will look to enhance the emotional moments and add a dose of youthfulness to the narrative.

While plot details remain under wraps, insiders suggest that Suriya 45 may delve into themes of social justice, family ties, and personal transformation. The combination of Suriya’s intense screen presence and RJ Balaji’s quirky storytelling makes this a must-watch Diwali release.

Dude: A Gen-Z Love Letter

Providing a contrasting flavor to the festival offerings is Dude, led by Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamitha Baiju. Praised for his boy-next-door image and down-to-earth performances, Pradeep plays the lead in this teen love story directed by debutant Keerthiswaran. Made by Mythri Movie Makers, the film navigates relationships, identity, and millennial struggles through the lens of a modern world.

The very name Dude suggests a carefree, coming-of-age tone. With Mamitha Baiju as the female protagonist, and a good supporting cast in the form of R. Sarathkumar and Rohini, the film seeks to mix emotion with comedy in a new manner. Netflix being the digital partner comes in as another fillip of excitement, hinting at the film having a large international following soon after its theatrical debut.

Music by Sai Abhyankkar will be young and peppy, just right for the film’s modern theme. Niketh Bommireddy’s cinematography and Barath Vikraman’s editing further add to the film’s modern, quick-paced appeal.

Releasing in October 2025, Dude seems set to appeal to young audiences seeking content that is relatable yet packaged in entertainment — making it a perfect Diwali outing for couples and friends.

Bison: Roaring with Intensity

In sharp contrast to Dude’s happy-go-lucky tones is Bison, a hard-hitting sports drama helmed by critically acclaimed director Mari Selvaraj. Having made socially conscious stories told through strong visuals and unflinching narratives (Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan), Selvaraj brings Bison to the screen with Dhruv Vikram as the lead.

This is Dhruv’s third big outing, and the hopes are sky high, particularly with the emotional investment he made to his first big film Adithya Varma. In Bison, he enacts a fighting and stubbornly resolute role, with teaser trailers so far indicating a hair-raising narrative of victory in the face of adversity in the sphere of indigenous games or peasant activism.

Seemingly opposite Anupama Parameswaran, the chemistry between the leads is reportedly to take center stage in the story. The supporting actors—featuring stalwarts such as Lal, Pasupathy, Rajisha Vijayan, and Kalaiyarasan—bring added gravity to this high-stakes drama. The music of the film, which has been done by Nivas K. Prasanna, is likely to come up with soulful but stirring tunes that underscore its gripping storyline.

Shot across Chennai and rural areas, Bison wrapped up shooting in early 2025 and is set to hit the screens on 17 October, coinciding with Diwali festivities. With Mari Selvaraj’s trademark social commentary and Dhruv Vikram’s growing stardom, Bison is set to find favor with viewers looking for cinema with substance and punch.

A Cinematic Diwali Showdown

The Diwali 2025 slate has a diverse mix of genres and narratives. At one end, Suriya is heading a family and socially oriented drama; at the other, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude assures light-hearted romance and fun. In between, Dhruv Vikram’s Bison strikes a balance with serious, meaningful narration.

Kollywood audiences have a treat awaiting them, as every movie appeals to a different segment of the audience, so that families, youth, and serious movie-goers all have something to rejoice. Further, this battle of giants is going to bring back the good old Diwali cinema rush — from houseful shows to fan celebrations outside movie halls, Tamil Nadu is preparing for a big cinematic festival.

The box office battle will be keenly followed, not only for figures but for reception, critical success, and fanfare. With superstar names, new-generation directors, and genre variety on the cards, Diwali 2025 could well become one of the most talked-about seasons in recent Tamil cinema history.
