Diwali 2024 has been proving to be a box office extravaganza with so many big-ticket releases clawing for audience attention. From blockbuster sequels to new cinema ventures, the festive season delivered a mix of genres catering to diverse audience preferences. Here’s a detailed look at the performances of six major releases and their gross collections as of November 18, 2024.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3: A Supernatural Success
The third instalment of the much-loved Bhool Bhulaiyaa has turned out to be a heavy crowd-puller. Anees Bazmee has directed the film, which continues its tradition of blending horror with comedy and also brings in fresh elements to hook on to the audiences.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, meanwhile has been the biggest grosser of the Diwali releases this year with a gross amount of ₹360 crore. The appeal is clearly pan-Indian, bypassing regional and linguistic barriers.
Singham Again: Punches Deliver
The hype surrounding Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, featuring Ajay Devgn, is well within reason due to its providing action-packed drama. As part of Shetty’s cop universe, this sequel attracts fans of the franchise.
Singham Again raked in ₹353 crore, close enough to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 to prove that it is not so long ago that Indian audiences lapped up an action-based narrative. The movie’s impeccable stunt choreography and powerful performances have been highly praised.
Amaran: A Tamil Cinema Triumph
The Tamil language action-drama, Amaran, has been a game-changer during these festival seasons. With a gripping story and with the hero delivering his outstanding performance, the film has churned out enough positivity out of it in Tamil Nadu and all over.
A film that has grossed ₹300 crore in collections, Amaran is one of the biggest success stories among Tamil films this year, entering the festive box office battle. Success has pretty much sealed the lead actor’s status as a bankable star.
Lucky Bhaskar: A Regional Gem
Among such big-budget heroes, Lucky Bhaskar really captured the heart of its viewers with such simple but poetic dialogues and a great cast of characters, all of which will surely create a huge fan base among the regional audience.
Lucky Bhaskar grossed ₹105.5 crore and proved that the finest of subjects can be presented well even in the face of severe competition. The movie has been particularly successful in South Indian states, as it has managed to catch an ardent fan base there.
KA: A Low-Profile Performer
KA may not have that buzz of contemporary, but it does leave a mark with its niche appeal. Catered for niche audiences, the refreshingly exciting effort offers a take on its chatted genre.
Though it stands against several contemporaries, KA has managed to rake in ₹40 crore. With the apt content and marketing, smaller films can certainly make their way to the box office.
Bagheera: Fail to Roar
Bagheera, an action-thriller, has failed to capitalize on the Diwali buzz expected. With a gross collection of ₹30 crore, the movie has underperformed its contemporaries.
Though the premise of the film is interesting, it could not reach out to the masses. It may be due to stiff competition and lukewarm reviews.
