Agathiyaa tries to blend horror with Indian traditional medicine and historical. Director Pa. Vijay unites Jiiva, Raashi Khanna, and Arjun Sarja in a movie that holds out the promise of an interesting period horror-thriller but is unable to follow through. Storyline
Agathiyaa, who is an art director, and his friends, including Veena, together acquire an empty mansion to renovate it as a horror ride. The adventure spins into dark stories when, at the deserted mansion, unexplainable ghostly occurrences manifest there.
The narrative broadens with the inclusion of Siddharth, who is a follower of ancient Indian Siddha medicine. His affiliation with Edwin Duplix, an historical character, and an astrophysical event that happens only once every 85 years contributes to the air of mystery. The movie tries to weave together these strands but poor execution means that it becomes a dull exercise.
Performances
Jiiva gives a good performance, but his character is not developed. He acts Agathiyaa nicely in some emotional scenes, but the script does not give him much opportunity to grow. Raashi Khanna acts her part fairly well, but the film neglects her character.
Arjun Sarja, though an integral part of the story, does not make a lasting impression because of poor character development. Redin Kingsley and Edward Sonnenblick offer supporting performances that neither add nor take away from the movie.
