Devara, the lead film of NTR under the direction of Koratala Siva is one of the big hits in Telugu Cinema. It is an action entertainer which not only marked a crucial milestone for the hero but also a big box office victory for the director, who was in search of a hit as he was getting setback or two in his career so far. A worldwide collection of Rs 420 crores has catapulted Devara to the position of the sixth-grossing film of Telugu cinema, after films like Baahubali 2, RRR, Kalki, Salaar, and Baahubali.
A success story, more so, because of the set of circumstances surrounding Koratala Siva’s latest outing. However, Devara still managed to bring him on top, with strong performances across multiple regions. The Telugu version was very big and performed quite extraordinarily well in its own state. Hindi markets responded also, thus providing the film with a good launch in places outside the South.
The movie was a hit in many aspects, but it was a disaster in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, failing to reach the audience there and thus bringing in little amount at the box office. In Tamil Nadu, this did not compete with any of the other Telugu movies and was considered a bad investment. The response for the movie in Kerala was also lukewarm, which added to further hurting its revenue from those areas.
Even so, it weathered the reverses in the sections where it performed well and, as a whole, ended up victorious for commercial success. In fact, it has been defined as a turning point for NTR since the end of the much-debated “SSR curse,” ending a long hiatus from a blockbuster by NTR.

With Devara at the theatrical end, interest will now be keenly watched for the digital outing. Tonight, the film will be seen on Netflix in all South Indian languages and will likely reach an even larger audience. The Hindi version will only be two weeks after, which further keeps the film reaching a global audience. The fans are looking forward to reliving the action and drama that made Devara a huge hit on the silver screen.
