Ajith Kumar’s much-awaited movie Vidaamuyarchi has finally been released, and expectations were at an all-time high. With Magizh Thirumeni at the helm, it promised to be an intense action thriller with a gripping storyline. But does it live up to the hype? The movie provides a stylish presentation with some interesting moments, but its slow pace and lack of emotional depth make it a mixed experience.
Slow beginning but an engaging first half
The first half of Vidaamuyarchi takes its own time in setting up the story. The movie begins slow and gradually introduces the characters and the premise. It takes time before the plot gains momentum and it might irritate the patience of some viewers. Once the core conflict enters, the movie becomes far more engaging. The director kept the storyline focused and free from unnecessary commercial diversions, which works in its favor.
It does not keep a good pace, but just before the interval, some surprising turns of events make it worth the watch. The presence of Ajith Kumar weighs the scenes heavily, and his intense screen presence helps keep the audience interested. Though the buildup could have been better managed, the first half manages to keep attention through its stylish execution and action sequences.
Weak storytelling spoils the ride
The second half of Vidaamuyarchi fails to maintain the tempo. The movie goes on tediously, as there are hardly any high-tension moments that keep the excitement going. In fact, there is a decent plotline, and the twists are well timed, but that is not built upon to make it a thriller.
The major drawback of this film is that there is not enough emotional depth in it. It keeps shifting its scenes without really working the audience into the characters. The actions are well shot, but there isn’t quite an emotional depth to elevate the story up. The film ends up looking stylistic but not having any substance to itself.
Ajith Kumar shines, but the film doesn’t give him enough room.
Ajith Kumar is quite effective with his usual charisma and screen presence. He fits well into the role and handles action sequences effortlessly. Still, the script does not provide him with scope to showcase himself in full measure. Unlike other mass-oriented films, Vidaamuyarchi keeps the star persona within check, something that may disillusion fans who eagerly await high-octane scenes from the hero.
The female lead of the movie is Trisha, but she has no importance. Hence, the romantic scenes between Ajith and Trisha are too weak and appear dull. Arjun Sarja and Regina Cassandra make appearances but do not stick in the mind. Their importance could have enhanced the depth of the movie.
Technical Aspects: Stylish Making but Average Music
From a technical point of view, Vidaamuyarchi shines brightly with high production values. The film is so beautifully shot with stunning visuals of Azerbaijan adding up to the aesthetic appeal of this film. Action sequences are pretty well done and edited sharply especially in the car chase scenes.
Anirudh Ravichander, who has given numerous memorable soundtracks to his earlier soundtracks with Ajith Kumar, does an extremely routine score this time. Though his background score helps him in a couple of critical scenes, it benefits the film anymore much. Other than Sawadeeka, nothing much grabs eyeballs through its songs.
Works and Does not Work
Good things are as follows:
- Presence of Ajith Kumar
- Cameras work great with excellent work on action pieces
- Scenic locations in Azerbaijan
- The Sawadeeka song is the highlight
- The director does not deviate from the story with unnecessary commercial scenes
Negatives:
- Narration is too slow and makes the movie boring
- Lack of emotional depth and character development
- Romance between Ajith and Trisha lacks spark
- Music and background score do not help
- Predictable screenplay with few surprises

Verdict: A Missed Opportunity
Vidaamuyarchi is a film that easily could have been an action thriller with all the potential to be gripping, but it failed because of its slow pace and the inability to make the audience emotionally invested. Even though Ajith Kumar’s screen presence and the stylish execution of the film are in its favor, weak storytelling prevents it from being impactful. The film may appeal to die-hard fans of Ajith, but for the general audience, it remains a mediocre thriller with moments of brilliance overshadowed by its flaws.
If you enjoy stylish action films with a subtle narrative, you may find Vidaamuyarchi worth a watch. However, if you are expecting a high-energy thriller with edge-of-the-seat excitement, this one might not meet your expectations.
