Amaran Crosses Million-Dollar Mark in North America – Sivakarthikeyan’s First Major MilestonThe 2024 Tamil-language biographical action war film Amaran is storming the North American box office, crossing the one-million-dollar mark. It is important for it being the first film headlined by Sivakarthikeyan to do well to this extent in North America. The film is touted to be a huge hit because of the gripping storyline and outstanding performances with convincing direction.
A tribute to a hero
But here, Arman-the “Immortal”-writes the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, valiant Indian soldier whose inspiration is drawn from the life stories of India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. Directed by the hands of Rajkumar Periasamy and from the house of Raaj Kamal Films International in conjunction with Sony Pictures Films India, this film explores themes of heroism and martyrdom in which Sivakarthikeyan is also the lead actor. An inspiring presentation towards the bravery of India’s contemporary soldier heroes, the film showcases a cast that includes besides him- Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose among others.
Production and Direction
Officially titled Sivakarthikeyan 21 in January 2022, the movie took nearly two years to be created. The principal photography began in May 2023 with a lot of movement around the cast and crew to Kashmir, Chennai, and Pondicherry. These authenticity-related shooting locations give a variety of depth to the narrative-war and scenery shots within India. The production ended after a whole year of on-and-off shooting schedules.
The cinematography by CH Sai and the editing work of R. Kalaivanan make the visuals gripping and impactful. The powerful sound track by G. V. Prakash Kumar has also been highly acclaimed and has contributed much to the emotional intensity of the film.

Positive Reviews and Box Office Success
Amar opened on October 31, 2024, which also marked Diwali; the opening weekend would be further strengthened by such a release date. Sivakarthikeyan was praised in his performance in Amaran but labeled it a gem, besides Rajkumar Periasamy’s masterly direction and scintillating screenplay that probes the depth of emotions portrayed in the movie. Further, the additional shows increased the rankings to be amongst one of the highest Tamil grosser of the year 2024.
As the film runs in theaters around the world, the general success of it tips the scales on the increasing global popularity of Tamil cinema and on Sivakarthikeyan as an international star.
