Prabhas Birthday Re-Releases Fail to Make a Mark: A Look at the Competition

This trend of re-release of the old films has picked up a lot of momentum in recent times. Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan have perhaps set some high standards in this regard. Murari, which released with Mahesh Babu, created a bang as it soon became the biggest grosser among all those being re-released. Well, Gabbar Singh by Pawan Kalyan has broken the opening day record of Murari – a point which spares no scope for questioning the fan following and love these stars continue to garner. Even films as veteran hero-centric as Indra 4K fared exceptionally well and proved that re-releasing older films in theaters is a sure-shot success.

While it was a blessing for Prabhas to have his films lined up for re-releases along with his birthday celebrations, this trend did not turn out to be a blessing for all. The re-releases of Eeshwar, Salaar, and Mr. Perfect in connection with Prabhas birthday failed to reap the desired gains from the box office. Hardcore fans of Prabhas thronged theaters to watch these films but the response from other viewers was merely lukewarm. The occupancy levels in theaters were anything but spectacular and collections far from what re-releases of Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan film had managed.

A kind of lacklustre response to Prabhas re-releases.

While the release of Eeshwar, one of the early films of Prabhas, along with much-talked-about Salaar and romantic drama Mr. Perfect, was making the hard core fans excited, but normally, no response was quite visible in the general circle. Though some of the iconic theatres were reporting housefull shows for specific events conducted by fan clubs, the overall show did not seem to be good enough. Only average crowds were thronged to the movies, and the business mirrored the lukewarm response.

Whereas Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan have been consistently ruling the re-release trend. Mahesh Babu’s films recorded after record and both Murari as well as Gabbar Singh went on to emerge as major successes in the re-release space and earned them packed houses and good box office collections apart from catering to hardcore fans.

Conclusion

And currently, it is pretty much the duos of Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan alone that, at least among the broader sections of the audiences, seem to match their re-release results, whereas no other actor can so far claim victory through re-releases. Just how future re-releases of Prabhas’s films go would be an interesting thing to watch.
