Global Box Office Boss: Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan Continues Its Reign As the latest Tamil-language action drama, Vettaiyan from Superstar Rajinikanth, keeps piling all the fresh releases into its pocket. The film has stood strong in the box office even in its second Sunday with houseful shows.
The T.J. Gnanavel directorial, produced under the banner of Lyca Productions, has crossed the ₹350 crore mark and is nowhere near hitting the brakes.
Vettaiyan opened to a humongous ₹77.90 crores on day one and has been steadily surging since. By the end of its second weekend, the film has collected an impressive ₹366.28 crores. Here’s the day-wise collection of the film at the box office:

Rajinikanth Leads a Stellar Cast
In Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth plays a senior police officer, Athiyan, who, while pursuing a murder case of a teacher, accidentally kills an innocent man in an encounter. For that reason alone, the star power is substantial enough – and further enhanced by Amitabh Bachchan in his Tamil debut, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Manju Warrier. Supporting casts are provided by Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami, and Ramesh Thilak.
Production and Release
Vettaiyan was officially titled in March 2023 under the working title Thalaivar 170 and was subsequently renamed. Principal photography began in October 2023 and concluded on August 2024. Locations Vettaiyan was shot in various locations like Thiruvananthapuram, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Music The film’s soundtrack was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while cinematography was done by S.R. Kathir and editing by Philomin Raj.
Scheduled to hit the screens worldwide on October 10, 2024, during the festival of Vijayadashami, Vettaiyan, the movie is receiving mixed reviews. While Rajinikanth received praise along with technical brilliance, others found the story and pace not interesting.
